The Oben CT-2420 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with BB-2 Ball Head Kit pairs a lightweight yet rigid set of 6x carbon fiber legs with a sturdy aluminum ball head that features separate knobs to adjust pan, tilt & tension and a quick-release plate that clamps into place securely via an Arca Swiss-style mechanism. The combined camera support gets quite tall (up to 68") and supports very heavy loads – you can safely mount up to 25.3 lb of gear, be it a DSLR with a heavy lens or a compact video camera with accessories.
As rangy and supportive as the tripod/head combination is, the two items weigh only 4.2 lb together and fold down to just 23.9" long – compact enough to fit into a carry-on bag (though you might have to pack it diagonally or remove the head).
